Overview of the Postgraduate Course

The programme has been designed with the practising clinician in mind and is taught through a combination of face to face lectures, self-study assignments and contact facilitated by information technology. Face to face teaching will be provided in 3 intensive weeks over a period of 12 months in different locations across Europe.

For the first cohort, the dates and locations are as follows (please note change from previously advertised dates and locations)

Week 1: 13-17 September 2010, Strathclyde University, Glasgow
Week 2: 24-28 January 2011, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm
Week 3: 12-16 September 2011, RWTH Aachen

Teaching weeks one and two will consider the assessment and management of motor speech disorders. Participants will complete accompanying tasks during the period between face to face teaching. Week three will focus on clinical case presentations by participants, teaching input to enhance research skills, as well as specific input from teaching staff and guest lecturers on topics identified by participants. More detail is provided in the module descriptors and the outline of assessment.

Participants are required to submit a number of self-and peer assessed assignments, as well as a clinical case study and a research proposal. Supervision for coursework will be provided in the teaching weeks as well as via e-mail and telephone contact during the self-study periods.

The course carries 30 ECTS credits and is awarded jointly between Strathclyde University and RWTH Aachen. Normally, such credits can be used at any European university to count towards a modular masters degree.
